Ten individuals convicted of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of spreading fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to making hurtful comments about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has yet to be released.
A persistent conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a defamation lawsuit in the United States of America against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's gender.
Their complaint states that Owens disregarded any factual proof that refuted her assertions opting to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these assertions on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she taught at his high school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
